TAYLOR WOODROW CONSTRUCTION TOPS OUT THE POST BOX

<IMG SRC="http://www.cala.co.uk/images/news images/postbox.jpg" width="300"><br><br>Taylor Woodrow Construction has topped out the £24.5 million residential Post Box scheme in Birmingham city centre, which it is building for CALA Homes (Midlands). Built in three different blocks, comprising 258 one and two bedroom apartments, including 30 affordable units, the project is due to be completed three months ahead of schedule at the end of March, 2006.
Last year CALA Homes (Midlands) pre-sold all the apartments in one transaction to Irish residential property investment company, Earthquake, in one of the largest apartment deals concluded in Birmingham.
Situated in Commercial Street, adjacent to the Mail Box, the Post Box stands on a brownfield site, originally occupied by light industrial premises, and boasts an internal courtyard and underground parking.
It incorporates a concrete frame with the three buildings varying up to four, five and six floors, with roof patios to some penthouse units. The façade is of metal frame with render, tiling, granite and timber finishes.
The apartments, priced between £160,000 and £240,000, vary in size between 400 sq ft and 1,200 sq ft.
Matthew Antill, CALA Homes (Midlands) commercial director, based in the company’s Sheldon offices, said: “After our successes at QUBE and Broadway Plaza, Post Box is yet a further example of CALA’s award-winning design and style. The scheme has already proved to be extremely popular because of its location in the city, and proximity to Mail Box and New Street Station.”
CALA Homes (Midlands) will announce plans for further Birmingham city centre developments in the next three months. It is presently working on three city centre residential and mixed use schemes, with an end value of more than £100 million, which will provide 600 new homes.
The Birmingham-based developer presently has developments under construction at Fradley near Lichfield, where it is building 86 new homes, in Solihull at Beauchamp Place and The Grove, and its latest premium development, Imperial Place in Lillington Road, Leamington Spa which comes to the market in the Autumn.
Later this year it will begin work on a 63 home, development at West Warwickshire Sports Club in Solihull, where CALA worked closely with Sport England and other public bodies to secure the future of the club.
