NEW MARKETING CAMPAIGN AND INVESTMENT TO IMPROVE TIPTON SHOPPING CENTRE
20 May 2008
CALA Properties and FM Developments have launched a marketing campaign for Tipton Shopping Centre to attract new retailers to the 51,674 sq ft multi-let neighbourhood shopping centre.
The new owners have appointed Birmingham-based retail agents Wright Silverwood. The campaign will target retailers and their agents across the UK, following the introduction of new branding, and the prospect of investment in the centre and in the local transport infrastructure, both of which are expected to boost shopper numbers.
In creating the new brand, the joint venture between Edinburgh-based CALA Properties and FM Developments, which acquired Tipton Shopping Centre in a £3.35 million deal in November 2007, has also planned new signage for the centre, as part of an on-going investment programme.
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council has already started work on a £22m vehicular and pedestrian tunnel to replace the existing level crossing on Owen Street. This is expected to be completed in August 2010 and should lead to a significant increase in footfall with the expected surge in traffic going past the front door of the centre.
“We are aiming to let some empty retail units and office units and gradually to improve the tenant mix to provide a better choice of shopping for the people of Tipton and Sandwell. Indeed, one of the shops is already under offer. We have also discussed our initial plans for investment with the retailers and they are right behind us,” says Roger Telford Development Manager at CALA Properties.
In addition to the retail and office units for let, Wright Silverwood is also marketing two development opportunities comprising further retail units totalling 918 sq m (9,800 sq ft), and nine one- or two-bedroom residential flats.
Located eight miles north west of Birmingham, Tipton Shopping Centre is Tipton’s main retail provision. The 51,674 sq ft property consists of 27 retail units, a public library and 3,300 sq ft of office accommodation at 1st floor level. Existing tenants include the Co-op, West Bromwich Building Society and Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. The shopping centre has 141 car parking spaces. It stands 200 metres from Tipton Station, a 15 minute journey from Birmingham New Street.
