The CALA Properties Board shapes the strategic direction and corporate and financial structure of CALA Properties Ltd. The Board ensures a corporate link and synergy with other Group strategies and allows quick decisions and prompt approvals to be made.
Robert Dick
Chairman
Robert has been with CALA since 1985, starting as Group Accountant. Robert was Group Finance Director for over 10 years. He was a key player in the team which completed the management buy out of the quoted CALA plc in June 1999 and subsequently won the Bank of Scotland Finance Director Of The Year 2000 award. Since then, Robert has moved to an executive role with principal responsibilities as Chairman of CALA Properties and CALA Finance.
Robert studied Law at Edinburgh University and qualified as a chartered accountant with Ernst and Young in Edinburgh in 1980. After qualifying, he worked in Hong Kong for over two years for global accountancy firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
Robert is a CALA Group Pension Trustee and is a Trustee of Edinburgh Cyrenians, a charity tackling homelessness and social exclusion. He is also a 1994 graduate of Common Purpose in Edinburgh.
Robert is a Board member of CALA Properties.
Alasdair MacConnell
Managing Director
Alasdair was appointed Managing Director of CALA Properties in Jan 2005. He is responsible for the commercial property development and investment portfolios throughout the UK. He joined the company in 1996 as Development Director and was appointed Managing Director for Scotland in 2002.
Previously, Alasdair was a Director for many years with the Scarborough/ Teesland organisations where he was involved in commercial development and asset management activities throughout the UK. Alasdair also worked for commercial real estate consultancy, Healey & Baker within the retail agency department.
Alasdair is a CALA Group Pension Trustee and in 2007 was appointed a Director of the CALA Group Executive Board.
Alasdair is a Board member of CALA Properties.
Jack Cadell
Regional Acquisitions Director
As Regional Acquisitions Director, Jack is responsible for acquiring development opportunities in the retail and leisure sectors throughout Scotland. In particular his role includes site purchase negotiations, planning, financial appraisals, and project funding.
Jack joined CALA in 2005 after 3 years with Henry Boot Developments where he was Development Manager responsible for office and retail schemes throughout Scotland . Prior to that he spent 5 years working in general property consultancy at Donaldsons and also Eric Young & Co, where he gained experience in investment sales, acquisitions and property consultancy across Scotland.
Jack is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and is also a committee member for the British Council of Shopping Centres in Scotland.
Nick White
Regional Acquisitions Director
As Regional Acquisitions Director, Nick is responsible for acquiring development opportunities in both the office and industrial sectors throughout Scotland. In particular his role includes site purchase negotiations, planning, financial appraisals and project funding.
Nick joined CALA in 2007 after 11 years with Knight Frank where latterly he was the Partner in charge of Business Space Agency and Development in their Edinburgh office. Prior to that, Nick spent 10 years working with Knight Frank, London where he was a Partner in the National Offices team with particular responsibility for the M25 agency market.
Nick is a previous committee member of the National Office Agents Society and is also a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), and the British Council for offices (BCO).
John Brophy
Development Services Director
John is CALA Properties' Development Services Director and heads up the Development Services Team which is responsible for managing all aspects of project delivery from planning and project management through to marketing, letting and investment sales.
John has over 16 years experience in the UK Property development market. Previously, he was Managing Director at Teesland Development Management where he established the development management subsidiary for Teesland PLC.
John is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), a Member of the Association of Project Managers and sits on the Scotland committee of the British Council of Offices (BCO).

Mark Gilluley
Regional Development Director
Mark is CALA Properties’ Regional Development Director with responsibility for all construction operations within the Properties division. He joined the company in 2002 and was previously Associate Director of Gardiner & Theobald Management Services.
Mark procures and manages the professional consultants and contractors utilised throughout the development process. Working closely with the New Deals' team, he is involved in all stages of development, from site acquisition to tenant letting/ fit-out and property sales, thus ensuring a co-ordinated approach to the commercial and technical aspects of the development process.
Mark is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), a member of the British Council of Offices (BCO), Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB) and was awarded a distinction for his MSc in Construction Management from Heriot Watt University. He also has a BSc (Hons) from Glasgow Caledonian University.
Susan Macrae
Marketing Manager
Susan is CALA Properties’ Marketing Manager and joined the company in 2002. Working closely with the Development Services team, she is responsible for the marketing of CALA’s property developments in addition to undertaking a corporate business development role.
Previously Susan spent four years in the corporate communications department with Mitsui Babcock where she was responsible for PR & Publicity activities.
Roger Telford
Development Manager
Roger is the Regional Development Manager within Development Services' Scotland team. He is responsible for adding value to CALA Properties' portfolio via lettings, sales, rent reviews and renewals. This covers all sectors including offices, retail, industrial and leisure.
Roger has been a chartered surveyor for over 10 years and has experience with Miller Developments and The Royal Bank of Scotland. He holds an economics degree, the RICS Diploma in Property Investment from Reading University where he was a prize winner, and is also a member of the Investment Property Forum.
Karen Naysmith
Corporate Services Director
Karen is CALA Properties Corporate Services Director with responsibility for the financial and corporate function within the Properties division. She joined CALA Properties in August 2003 from Miller Developments where she worked as a project accountant for their UK and European property interests for 3 years.
Karen's role includes project funding, negotiating purchase, sale and joint venture agreements, taxation, and all management and financial accounting requirements. Karen graduated from Aberdeen University in 1996 with a MA (Hons) in Accounting. She went on to train as a chartered accountant with KPMG in Edinburgh.
Paul Sutherland
Management Accountant
Paul is responsible for managing the cost control system for all CALA Properties projects throughout the UK. In particular, Paul's role includes preparing and updating cashflows, liasing with banks and 3rd party funders and preparing monthly Management Accounts for CALA Properties and all Joint Venture Companies. Managing the cost control system is Paul's principal responsibility and this requires him to work very closely with the Development Services Team.
Paul joined CALA 7 years ago and has worked on both Residential and Residential funding arms of CALA prior to joining CALA Properties in 2006.
Paul is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (MAAT) and is currently working towards a qualification with The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
Dorothy Mooney
Secretary
Dorothy has been a key member of the CALA Properties team since 1995. Dorothy provides essential secretarial and PA support services ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the office on a daily basis.
Paul Devine
Director, UK Acquisitions
Paul is responsible for the acquisition of commercial opportunities for the company across the UK. His team is responsible for all aspects of acquisition including site purchase negotiations, planning, financial appraisals, and project funding.
Previously, Paul spent 18 years with AWG Property and Morrison Developments, where he was a Board Director responsible for the Group's commercial activities across the UK. Paul has also worked for commercial real estate consultancy Ryden.
Paul is a Board member of CALA Properties
