Children at Saltway Day Nursery in Bodicote have been visited by CALA Homes, as part of its focus on ‘people that help us’.

CALA, who is building the Cotefield development in the village – visited the nursery to explain to 27 lively three and four year olds how houses are built. Using building blocks and the classic story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’, Sharon Thind, Marketing Manager for CALA Homes (Chiltern) explained to the youngsters how a house made of bricks is strong, and keeps us safe.

The nursery has been focussing on ‘people that help us’ throughout September and October, and has so far received visits from the police, a local veterinary service and an animal charity.

Jacqui, Assistant Manager at Saltway Day Nursery, commented, “We have been thinking about different people who help us within our local community, and the children suggested ‘builders’ as they ‘help us to build houses’. We were so pleased that CALA Homes was able to come in to the nursey and explain to the children how homes are built. Sharon’s explanation using The Three Little Pigs was ideal, and the children spent the rest of the afternoon building their own ‘homes’ with the play bricks that CALA gifted to us.”

Sharon arrived at the nursery dressed in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to demonstrate the importance of site safety in an area where construction is underway. Child-size hi-vis jackets were also gifted to the children to raise awareness of the importance of keeping them safe as the darker mornings and nights start to creep in.

As a local housebuilder, we wanted to combine our session with the importance of site safety, and it was lovely to see how engaged the children were in both how we build homes, but also how we stay safe when building them.”
