Local charities, schools, community projects and good causes across Hertfordshire could receive a share of £12,000 thanks to CALA Homes’ 2019 Community Bursary, which is being launched on Monday, 11th February. The initiative, which is now in its third year, aims to provide support for a wide range of organisations and projects within the communities in which CALA builds. Since its launch, over 200 good causes across the country have received a share of more than £200,000.

Duncan Jackson, Managing Director at CALA Homes North Home Counties said: “We’re thrilled to be relaunching our Community Bursary in Hertfordshire for the third time, and are looking forward to hearing from even more local charities, schools, community projects and good causes in the area and finding out about the great work being done. CALA has always been committed to making a positive and lasting contribution to local communities through an active programme of local charity donations, community support and sponsorship, and the Community Bursary scheme gives us the chance to find out exactly what support is needed locally.

“Eight charities in Hertfordshire have previously benefited from the CALA Community Bursary scheme with donations made for projects ranging from supporting Jubilee House Care Trust with their outreach project to pay for community activities to paying for strength and conditioning equipment for Bishop’s Stortford Judokwai Club. The Bursary provides an opportunity for charities and groups of all sizes to apply for funds, and we look forward to hearing more about how we can get involved.”

One local charity that received bursary funds last year was GEMMS in Stevenage, a group providing support for people with dementia and their carers. Pamela Gallagher, Chair of GEMMS, adds: “We are thrilled to receive this financial boost from CALA and look forward to utilising the money to arrange some exciting day trips for our members. The service we provide at GEMMS is essential for the long term well-being of those affected by a devastating illness such as dementia.”

You can apply for a share of the community bursary by downloading an application form from the CALA website (www.cala.co.uk/bursary).

The closing deadline for entries is Friday, 8th March 2019.
