Elevate Life is a not-for-profit specialist youth club which supports young people in the local area with a range of anxiety, stress and mental health issues. Run by volunteers, Elevate Life helps young people to develop coping mechanisms such as mindfulness and mentoring, as well as nurturing talent by providing opportunities for them to enjoy games, film design, art, cooking and sports.
CALA Homes, which is building Imber Riverside in East Molesey, launched the CALA Community Bursary in Surrey in February and invited organisations, charities and groups in the area to apply for a share of £10,000 to help fund projects that make a difference in the community. Elevate Life was chosen as a recipient of the bursary, with money going towards art materials, Lego and board games for the young members to enjoy.
Alison Deakin, Sales and Marketing Director at CALA Homes (Thames), said: “CALA has always been committed to making a positive and lasting contribution to the local communities in which it builds through an active programme of charity donations, community support and sponsorship, and the Community Bursary scheme has given us the opportunity to find out what support is required locally. Choosing the recipients of this year’s Community Bursary was a tough decision, but the work that Elevate Life does really stood out to us. Community is at the centre of our ethos at CALA, and we’re delighted to offer Elevate Life funds towards running costs for a confidence building workshop, art materials and board games for the young members to enjoy for many years to come.”
Anita Hill, co-founder of Elevate Life, said: “We are incredibly grateful to CALA Homes for its kind donation. The funding will really help us to provide a range of fantastic opportunities for children across Surrey who may be experiencing a range of difficulties with anxiety, socialisation and mental health issues. Elevate Life provides an alternative to social media by offering an opportunity for members to enjoy face-to-face interaction with their peers. It provides a safe place for them to engage, have fun and build friendships, their confidence and skill sets. Elevate Life wouldn’t be possible without kind donations from local businesses, such as that provided by CALA Homes but every penny makes a huge difference to the lives of our members.”
In 2019, the Community Bursary scheme has awarded more than £100,000 to 117 good causes across the UK. A further 200 causes have previously benefited from the scheme, with £200,000 awarded to various initiatives since 2017.
