First time buyers receive a helping hand to make their dream move

When Vanessa Lai and Jack Darbyshire decided to buy their first home together, the market town of Shipston-on-Stour was at the top of their wish-list.

Voted one of the best places to live in the UK for two consecutive years, Shipston-on-Stour offered the lifestyle the couple were after as well as being well located for both Vanessa and Jack’s commute.

The first time buyers were looking for the low maintenance and modern design of a new build property, but had been underwhelmed by many of the developments in the area. That is until they visited CALA Homes’ Foxgloves development. Vanessa and Jack were impressed by the quality of design and specification of the properties, but would need help to make their dream home a reality.

Vanessa says: “Jack and I were looking for a quiet area to purchase our first home and felt like we’d found a real hidden gem when we came across Shipston. Once we’d decided this is where we wanted to settle, we began looking at developments in the area, but were quite disappointed with the quality and choice available. We visited CALA’s Foxgloves development more out of curiosity, not thinking we would be able to afford one of these stunning houses, until the sales consultant told us about the Help to Buy scheme and the difference it could make. Using the scheme meant we could purchase a three-bedroom, semi-detached property, which met all of the requirements for our first home.”

All of the remaining three and four bedroom properties at Foxgloves are available to purchase through the government-backed Help to Buy initiative, which enables first and existing homebuyers to secure a home with as little as a 5% deposit, and is available on all new build homes priced up to £600,000.  The government provides an equity loan of up to 20% of the property price, which is interest free for the first five years. The remaining balance is funded by the purchaser with a mortgage.

Vanessa continues: “The help we received meant the house fell well within our budget, and even left us with some extra funds to furnish our new property. To be able to buy our perfect first home in our number one location really was a dream come true.”

“What really stands out with CALA is the quality of the properties. The kitchen in our new home is light and spacious and of a really high specification; it will definitely be the heart of our new home. The garden is also a fantastic space, which we really didn’t expect from a new build. CALA even provided us with carpets throughout, which was a real added bonus.

“We’ve been in our new home for a few months now and we absolutely love living in Shipston. The town itself is so lovely and we have fantastic community-spirited neighbours – it really feels like everyone is supportive of one another. It’s wonderful to be able to live near to the Cotswolds, and Shipston offers the vibrancy we wanted from a market town, but without the business of a typical tourist destination.”

Foxgloves offers a stylish range of two to five-bedroom homes, all of which have been traditionally designed in-keeping with the surrounding Warwickshire villages. The homes feature light, spacious interiors, contemporary features and a high specification for which CALA Homes is renowned.

The development is located less than a mile away from the town centre, which boasts a number of local shops, high street cafes and pubs. With excellent commuter links to London via the M40 motorway, and good schooling, including Shipston-on-Stour Primary School and Shipston High School, Foxgloves is perfectly situated for young couples and families alike.

There are currently a range of three and four-bedroom homes available at Foxgloves, with prices ranging from £390,000- £553,000, and selected homes ready to move into. For more information, visit our Foxgloves page.
