To join our Construction team you should have strong communication skills as you will be conveying information to colleagues in the office, subcontractors on site, and customers of CALA. 

Under the guidance of the Construction Management team, you will be involved in all aspects of site delivery and should also have excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise a varied and busy workload. You will be involved in managing sub-contractors by giving them clear direction and clarifying expectations in all aspects of site delivery. You will also learn about all site resources including labour, plant and materials as well as on-site health and safety and client customer service.

You will participate in and create a culture where operatives recognise risks to prevent issues arising, ultimately working towards a proactive response rather than a reactive system. You will ensure that Health and Safety standards are maintained through a constant checking process and you will be confident in taking immediate corrective action if you witness a breach of the CALA guidelines.

Communication skills are paramount to ensure that the necessary teams are kept up to date with any changes on the site. You will also be expected to take ownership of issues and ensure they are dealt with promptly. You must appreciate the importance of excellent customer satisfaction and resolving customer service issues.

You should be conscientious, hardworking and computer literate with strong time management skills.

A Day in the Life of a Site Manager

7.15am Arrive on site to arrange for the site labourer to open up all plots under construction and carry out janitorial duties around compound and in welfare facilities.

7.30am Quick catch up with the Assistant Site Managers to assess work load for the day and discuss priorities.

7.45am Carry out any safety inductions for any new starts or visitors.

8am Walk around the site to assess site presentation, safety standards,works in progress and ensure all trades are on site!

9am Office duties such as emails, calls, site instructions, paper work, material call offs etc.

10am A chance for a quick cuppa then Health and Safety paperwork.

11am Another walk through site on the way to visiting the Sales team to ensure everything is ok and to discuss any client issues. 

11.45am Back to office to continue the emails, paperwork and calls from earlier.

1pm Stop for lunch, followed by another catch up with Assistant Site Managers to discuss any issues encountered that morning.

2pm Site meetings  usually with sub-contractors, trade meetings, or safety meetings.

3pm Another walk through site to check on progress, quality, presentation, safety standards, traffic management etc.

4pm Back to the office to catch up on paper work, emails, make calls etc. Deal with any issues encountered throughout the day.

5pm Draw up the program works for tomorrow, order materials, arrange required meetings

5.30 – 6pm ensure plots under construction are locked up, close site and finish
