A career in construction offers boundless opportunities for progression and development, both on site and as part of the teams working behind the scenes.
Kerry Wingrove is an Assistant Buyer in CALA’s Chiltern region and is an excellent example of how the company supports employees to pursue their career goals.
Kerry joined CALA in 2014 as a Commercial Secretary, responsible for providing administrative support for the Commercial team. She explains: “I really enjoyed my job and the team I was working with but I was keen to challenge myself and wanted to do more. My director was extremely supportive and suggested a role within the buying department might be a good next step. It’s very different from what I was doing but requires a lot of similar skills.
“Over the course of about 18 months I got more involved with the buying department and undertook work based training alongside my current role. Eventually I was given my own development to work on, assisting the senior buyer and in July I was officially promoted to Assistant Buyer.
“My new role involves procuring all of the materials used on site. I’m predominately office based but I do also get to go out and visit developments which I really enjoy.
“The on the job training I have received from CALA has been fantastic, everyone has been extremely supportive; helping me to develop the skills and knowledge needed to take this next step.
“I’m really excited about my new role and the prospect of a long and successful career within CALA. There is so much room for growth as the company expands so the opportunities are endless.”
