How long have you worked at CALA?: 18 months
What does your job entail?: My role at CALA involves the identification and acquisition of both short term and long term residential development land through a range of sources and by establishing a network of contacts. I undertake thorough due diligence through planning and development appraisals in order to produce accurate valuations. I advise the Group Board on the acquisition of proposed sites through detailed reports after assessing and mitigating potential risks whilst adhering to the company’s hurdle rates. Thereafter, I monitor contract negotiations to facilitate the acquisition of residential development land. Subsequently, I am involved with the successful disposal of any affordable housing provision on developments where I have been involved.
What is your favourite thing about your job?: The opportunity to see a site from source to acquisition through a varied role is extremely rewarding as no two sites are the same.
What achievement are you most proud of since joining CALA?: My greatest achievement at CALA to date was assisting with the acquisition of the Land at Bury Water Lane, Newport. Furthermore, I was involved with the successful disposal of the affordable housing provision on the development.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about a career in housebuilding?: I would advise people considering a career in housebuilding to play to their strengths in order to provide the best quality of service and be willing to work in a varied, flexible environment.
