Why I applied for the CALA Build 2019

I want to see and feel life in a country such as Cambodia, and I want to help in anyway I can. I have worked in a technical department throughout my entire construction career, spending short spells in other departments to gain a rounded knowledge of construction, but I have never had the opportunity to build what I may have designed. I want to use my passion and technical knowledge to improve standards wherever possible, and to enable people in a less fortunate position to have a home. I feel doing this will help me gain perspective about some issues my colleagues may have on site and I will use that in my everyday life.

What I am most looking forward to on this trip

Ever since being selected for CALA Build 2019 I have been really looking forward to meeting the people of Cambodia and learning about their history and culture. I want to use my knowledge of house building to help people in Cambodia build homes for themselves, but also to learn new techniques and skills that I can bring back to my everyday life.

What Adam’s referees said about him:

DELIVERY Adam’s organisation of meetings, co‚Äźordination of consultants and his can-do attitude, alongside his ability to make decisions and stand by them, are great traits to have.

RESPECT Adam has always made himself available and has stepped up on a number of occasions to fill the gaps or to assist the new members within the team. He has mentored and supported new members of staff as they’ve joined the company. He’s always happy to give time to these new colleagues. He also sees colleagues in other departments as his ‘internal customers’ and provides them with an excellent service.

PASSION Over the last couple of years, one of Adam’s sites has been a particularly complex and challenging bespoke development of contemporary houses and apartments. It has been necessary to provide a package of exceptionally detailed information. Adam was involved in seeing this implemented on site with involvement of all the trades on site. He dedicated two days a week on site to support the site team and never waivered from that commitment.

QUALITY Adam’s attitude to hard work and team work really shines through when running projects, he knows where his expertise lies and he is able to communicate with people in a simple manner leaning in to their own comfort zones and personalities.
