Holwell Road, Pirton
North Home Counties
Construction work is well underway on our Comice Meadows development of 78 homes in Pirton and our showhomes have now launched. We started work on site in July 2018 and anticipate that our build programme will take just under two years to complete, with a scheduled completion date of December 2020.
As part of our delivery of this development, CALA will be making a financial contribution towards improvements in local facilities and services. These include important highway works on the Holwell Road which will substantially improve the forward visibility on the sharp bend located to the front of our development. While we understand that these works will cause short-term disruption for local residents, they will have long-term benefits, improving highway safety for all road users.
The Highway improvement works to the front of our site on Holwell Road are scheduled to commence from Monday 20th May 2019. While these works are underway, pedestrian access will be maintained, however vehicular access will be restricted with the exemption of emergency service vehicles and traffic directly to our site.
To minimise disruption for local residents, and under the instruction of Hertfordshire County Council (HCC), we will be working extended hours, including weekends to endeavour to complete the highway improvements within a reduced 12 week programme.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this time and will do all we can to minimise the disruption.
Ahead of the highway improvements, we plan to start work on the construction of two holding bays either side of Holwell village. The holding bays, which will act as waiting areas for delivery lorries travelling to our site, are designed to ease congestion while the highway improvements take place.
In response to feedback from local residents during the recent consultation period on the holding bay works, and to help minimise disruption, the location of one of the holding bays has been moved. The new location has been agreed in consultation with Hertfordshire County Council and works are anticipated start on Wednesday 1st May (subject to HCC approval).
We would like to reassure residents that the holding bays will be manned by traffic marshals during working hours, to assist with the safety of pedestrians and to help manage the movement of lorries heading to our site. Lorry drivers will be instructed to turn off their engines while using the bays and, at the end of each working day, the bays will be fenced off to stop other vehicles using them.
Once again, we would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by the upcoming works to Holwell Road and thank you for your patience while we complete these much-needed highway improvements.
Deliveries: It is CALA’s intention to minimise any disruption or inconvenience to the local community. Throughout construction, CALA will operate restricted delivery times, with deliveries only being accepted between the hours of 09:30am to 15:00 on weekdays, unless completely unavoidable. Due to the nature of the local roads, CALA Homes will wherever possible restrict deliveries to rigid vehicles and only allow articulated vehicles with prior consent.
Considerate Constructors Scheme: CALA homes is part of the Considerate Constructors Scheme. As a partner of the scheme, CALA vows to “care about appearance, respect the community, protect the environment, secure everyone’s safety and value our workforce.” Find out more about the scheme by visiting: https://www.ccscheme.org.uk/
