The environment sits at the very core of CALA’s Sustainability Strategy, as we understand the ever-growing importance of minimising the impact that our operations and developments have on the world around us. Our Site & Office Environmental Teams, Zero Carbon Team, Transport Team, Procurement Team, and Green Teams have been set up to create, drive, and measure our new targets within this area.
On a global scale, building construction and operation contributes to a large amount of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. In order to do our bit to mitigate this impact, we have set ambitious but realistic targets for the coming years in relation to reducing our carbon footprint:
CALA aims to enable our customers to live sustainably in communities that support biodiversity, and by the end of 2022, our goal is to have formulated a biodiversity strategy and action plan through the collection of data on biodiversity across all CALA sites.
Our environmental impact doesn’t stop at our developments, which is why we aim to create group-wide initiatives and targets to reduce single use plastics, fossil fuels, and waste to landfill in the process of operating the CALA business, including office and site processes. Through the implementation of improved technology and updated systems, our goal is to drastically reduce our paper use across all business functions by 75%.
These targets, as well as others outlined in the Sustainability Strategy, will allow us to become a more sustainable business that can operate with minimal negative impact on our environment.
