When couple Megan and Liam Riley decided it was time for a fresh start, finding a beautiful new-build home with excellent commuter links to Edinburgh and Fife was at the top of their priority list.

So, when the pair discovered our Oakbank development in Winchburgh is located in easy reach of a brand-new junction designed to significantly cut the journey time from the village to the M9 motorway, they knew they found their dream location.

“We fell in love with the area very quickly, but the prospect of the new junction on the M9 cutting our journey time in half for both of us helped us make our final decision,” said Megan.

“I work in Rosyth in Fife and Liam is predominately based in Edinburgh city-centre, so the location of the Oakbank development meets our needs perfectly as it greatly speeds up our travel time. We use the motorway most days, and now it takes just minutes for us to get onto the main route in and out of the village, which is ideal.”

The couple opted for the Cleland home style and after originally viewing the showhome, the pair purchased their new home in Winchburgh last May before getting their keys in October 2022.

The four-bedroom detached home boasts a spacious formal lounge and a generous open plan family kitchen-dining living area which connects to the garden, perfect for entertaining guests and extending the living space.

Megan continued: “It was the size of the kitchen living space that really sold the house to us, as well as the stunning hallway. Our previous home didn’t have either of these things, so that was a massive selling point when it came to choosing which house style we wanted to go for. The showhome was styled so perfectly, it allowed us to envisage living in that house before we even bought it.”

The property also features large windows throughout and comes complete with bi-folding doors which open out onto a private patio and garden, allowing natural light to flow throughout the home.

Megan added: “Enjoying a cup of tea while looking out onto our patio is one of my favourite things to do in our new home. Our bedroom has a beautiful big window too, which brings lots of natural light into the room which I absolutely love. Cala certainly break the stereotype of new-build houses having small rooms.”

As well as their new home’s modern facilities and Oakbank’s close proximity to major towns and cities, the couple have also fallen in love with the charming village of Winchburgh, which boasts several local amenities and popular leisure options.

Megan said: “Auldcathie Park is just a few moments’ walk from our new home and Liam and I enjoy taking a walk through the green spaces and grabbing a coffee from Zac & Co for together. I use the gym and pool facilities at least five times a week at the nearby leisure centre too, and when we feel like treating ourselves, or our friends and family, we’ll book a table for a delicious meal at The Tally Ho.”

Megan said: “Our life in general is very different compared to what it used to be, thanks to the opening of the new junction. Now, we spend most weekends going into the city centre for lunch or dinner or take the short trip to South Queensferry for scenic walks around the shoreline. Our pace of life has changed completely since we moved here – it truly is a wonderful place to call home.”

She added: “The Cala East sales team were so supportive in the full process and were able to answer any questions we had. I couldn’t speak any more highly of their professionalism and have since recommended Cala to multiple friends and family due to our fantastic experience.”

Located just 12 miles from Edinburgh city centre, Oakbank, Winchburgh is excellently positioned along a beautiful mature tree line, with direct pedestrian access into the 85-acre Auldcathie District Park.

The final homes in the first phase of impressive four and five bedroom detached and semi-detached homes are still available. Homes in the second phase of this contemporary development are now available to reserve too, with prices starting at £395,000.
