We are encouraging residents at Wolvercote Mill in Oxford to make greener transport choices and have therefore provided a car share club on site. One vehicle has been made available in the developments newly-completed central Mill Square, with homeowners able to book journeys online or via an app.

The scheme is being run by Enterprise Car Club which means residents will be able to access vehicles across the UK, with pick-up and drop-off points at a range of convenient street, train station, car park and Enterprise Rent-A-Car branch locations. Cars are cleaned between journeys to ensure they are COVID-safe.

To encourage the use of the scheme, Cala is providing homeowners with an information leaflet when they move in and a £50 credit when they join the Car Club.

The car share club is just one of a number initiatives introduced by Cala at Wolvercote Mill as part of a commitment to creating a highly sustainable new community. There are electric car charging points in all private garages, and in shared locations across the site, and every home comes with cycle storage.

Cala has taken great care to select high quality materials which offer enhanced levels of insulation for more energy-saving and cost-efficient homes. Some electricity will be generated through solar panels installed across the site which will power areas of the development and feed excess electricity back into the grid. Within the landscaping on site, a sustainable drainage system will harvest and filter polluted storm water from nearby roads, allowing it to be released harmlessly into the neighbouring Mill Stream.

Stala Thomson, Sales and Marketing Director for Cala Homes Chiltern, comments: “Green transport is very much part of the new community we’re creating at Wolvercote Mill, with walking routes and cycle stores throughout the development and easy access to public transport. We know that in order for people to make greener choices, the solution needs to be practical and easy to access. Partnering with Enterprise meant that we could provide a car club at the heart of the development with access to vehicles across the UK.”

Wolvercote Mill is located on the site of the former Oxford University Press paper mill, which was originally a water-powered operation. Cala drew inspiration from the site’s history and heritage for the architectural design, with the natural waterways at the centre of the development’s layout.

The homes are in close proximity to local pubs and amenities, as well as a superb cycle routes to Oxford City Centre along the River Thames. Well connected for public transport, there will be a new bus route operating from the Mill Square, and both Oxford Station and Oxford Parkway train stations are both just a few miles away.
