Whether you want to see the Cambridge Christmas lights or buy a gift for a loved one from the Christmas markets in Cambridge, there’s plenty to see and do this Christmas in Cambridge.

1. Cambridge Christmas Afternoon Tea

A trip to Cambridge wouldn’t be complete without sampling one of its festive Christmas afternoon teas.

These are just two of our favourite Cambridge afternoon tea spots:

  • Parkers Tavern – This well-established restaurant offers a delicious selection of savouries and sweets created by its pastry team. With traditional festive finger sandwiches and Christmas spiced scones, this afternoon delight is available every day from now until the 5th of January.
  • The Fellow’s House – This esteemed hotel is offering a truly indulgent Christmas Afternoon Tea, now available every Friday to Sunday until the 23rd of December. Guests can expect a glass of bubbly, an array of traditional teas and a beautiful selection of festive sandwiches and sweet treats.

2. Cambridge Christmas Market

It wouldn’t be Christmas in Cambridge without the award-winning Cambridge Christmas Market, which has grown massively since opening in 2012. This year it is hosting nearly 60 local artisans, crafters, and makers. The Cambridge Christmas Market is a favourite shopping destination for unique gifts, seasonal food, and a great shopping atmosphere to get you in the festive mood.

The Cambridge Christmas Market is located at Cambridge City Hall and will be open on Saturday 9th of December from 8am-4pm and again on Sunday 10th of December from 10 am–4pm.

3. Alliance Française Christmas Market

If you’d like to experience a different culture this Christmas in Cambridge, you can visit the Alliance Française Christmas Market. Alliance Française is a non-profit, world-leading association for teaching French and promoting ‘Francophile’ cultures. This Christmas you can discover numerous, beautiful stalls, selling everything from jewellery, ceramics, candles, delicious sweet treats and games, and it will also have a designated children's area.

This market will be held on Red Cross Lane on Saturday the 9th of December from 3pm–5:30 pm. It's £2 entry for adults and 50p for children.

4. Waterbeach Christmas Market

Another must-visit Cambridge Christmas market is the brilliant Waterbeach Christmas Market, which boasts over 40 stalls this year. Christmas shoppers can expect to see the very best of products from this growing, local community and browse classics such as mulled wine, delicious hog roasts, festive pony rides, beautiful Christmas wreaths, Santa’s Grotto, craft stalls, Christmas cards and jewellery stalls.

The Waterbeach Christmas Market is located at the Waterbeach Barracks, which is only a short drive from our Cala at Waterbeach development, and will be held on Sunday the 17th of December from 10am–3pm.

5. Cambridge Ice Arena

The Cambridge Ice Arena on Newmarket Road has a selection of extensive lessons, courses, and public ice-skating sessions to suit all abilities this Christmas. From beginners to experienced skaters, there’s something for everyone looking to improve their skills or have a fun day out with friends and family during the holidays.

It even has themed public skating lessons, such as ‘Disco Skate’ which involves disco lights and great music for the ultimate skating experience. Sessions take place every Friday night from 7.30 pm-9pm.

There is also the Coffee Skate, a social ice-skating session that includes a hot drink served in its rink-side café after the session. This is available every Friday from 9 am-10 am and costs £10 which includes skating and a hot drink.

There is plenty of exciting festive activities happening this Christmas in Cambridge so make sure to double-check event dates and times to not miss out.
