If you love the great outdoors and are always up for the chance to get your steps in, Stratford-upon-Avon is the place to be.

Cala homes are celebrating the recent extension of the Stratford greenway from the Fernleigh Park development in Long Marston. The greenway is a bridleway stretching just over 5 miles and forms part of the National Cycle network which means for residents of Fernleigh Park a continuous path from their doorstep all the way to the historic Shakespearean town.

Fringed by trees, the greenway is a suitable path for cyclists, walkers, families and wheelchair users. It’s a way to take in some beautiful scenery, landscape, nature and heritage along the way. Following the course of the old Honeybourne railway line; a single-track railway built in 1859 this traffic free route will take you through the peaceful countryside of Long Marston, crossing the River Avon using Stannals bridge, past the racecourse and right into the heart of Stratford.

Not only that, but the greenway provides a corridor welcoming a variety of wildlife and providing a safe path across the five-mile stretch. The sustainable landscaping has allowed for habitats to remain and bees to keep buzzing, but just to be sure, the National Biodiversity Network Gateway records many protected species within 2 km either side of the Greenway such as the common lizard, adder, water vole and ten species of bats.

Visitors will find plenty of activities to do, including hiring bikes via Stratford cycle hire, playparks, picnic areas, and two cafes you’ll find along the way - Milcote Cafe and Bobby’s, both converted into characterful train carriages. If coffee isn’t your thing, Bobby’s hosts regular wine tasting opportunities, so this could be the perfect spot for summer evenings out with friends. For a detailed map of the greenway, visit Warwickshire County Council’s website here.

If you like the idea of the greenway on your doorstep, our Fernleigh Park development on the former RAF Long Marston airfield is the perfect location.

Fernleigh Park hosts a relaxed way of life with 52 acres dedicated to green open spaces and outdoor amenities including nature trails, allotments, a community orchard, woods and play parks. It’s just 5 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon, was has previously been voted the Best Place to Live in the Midlands by The Times and within easy reach of Birmingham and the Cotswolds.

With a stunning collection of 2, 3, 4 and 5-bedroom homes in a village setting, Fernleigh Park offers nature at your doorstep whilst not being far from the bustle and convenience of the town.
