As many will be aware, the Molson Coors Brewery Alton Development Brief was prepared in 2016, after consultation with stakeholders and East Hampshire District Council. The site represents a significant opportunity for the town, and following the selection of CALA Homes as the preferred development partner by the Molson Coors Brewing Company UK Limited and an exchange of legal agreements, we are currently preparing a planning application for submission to the Council.
The emerging development proposals include the redevelopment of the site to provide approximately 186 high quality family homes, approximately 2,000m² of commercial business use and a care home facility provided by the award-winning Oakland Care; to support residents with residential, nursing, dementia, palliative and respite care.
The residential proposals include a broad range of one to four-bedroom homes and apartments, with 71 of the properties allocated as affordable homes. Four maisonettes with carer studios are also proposed to help support the ongoing needs of the students of Treloar College. The Grade II listed Culverton House will also be retained and brought back into re-use.
Our proposals are “landscape led” and include the provision of large amounts of new public open space, linking the River Wey Walk and providing access through to the Kings Pond and Train Station. A new pedestrian and vehicle site access point off Draymans Way is proposed, with new pedestrian and cycle routes provided through the site, with a new linear park incorporating sections of the deculverted River Wey.
CALA’s involvement in the project will see the successful regeneration of the former Brewery, opening the site up to the public for the first time in over 100 years and could create over 200 new jobs through its proposed business and care home uses.
