With more homebuyers seeking the entertainment and buzz that comes with living in the city, Aberdeen features an array of developments offering an idyllic city lifestyle, with homes in or close to a central hub benefitting from culture, cuisine and cosmopolitan credentials.

This rise in interest in the city centre looks set to continue as investment in key parts of Aberdeen create an added draw for homebuyers looking to soak up entertainment, shopping and food, all within reach of the stunning Aberdeen coastline.

Here are some of the reasons why it’s an exciting time to consider Aberdeen as your city living destination of choice.

West End delights

Already home to an array of local foodie delights and culinary highlights, including restaurants, cafes, bars and shops packed with local produce, Aberdeen is a hub for those who enjoy quality food and drink in a stylish, contemporary setting. With trendy areas such as Rosemount in the city’s west end, home to Cala’s  TwentyFour, Rosemount development, full of plenty of quality eateries, the city is putting first class cuisine on the map. This includes recent addition, Tarragon by Graham Mitchell, which showcases some of the finest local produce the North-East has to offer, as well as some other huge hospitality names arriving in the city, such as Amuse by Kevin Dalgleish and Six By Nico.

Resident X moves into the city centre

As part of a £107 million investment in the Marischal Square area, a new concept bar and casual dining scene, dubbed ‘Resident X’, has recently opened, providing a touch of contemporary cuisine, modern craft drinks and a buzzing social hub for those looking for something stylishly unique.

A taste of things to come

This trend is set to continue tenfold due to the Aberdeen City Centre and Beach Masterplan, which includes plans for a new £70 million investment in a brand-new International Food Market, set to be created near Union Street in the city centre. The new destination venue is planned to feature a variety of international-style food and drink outlets, offering residents from the area a variety of culinary options from across the globe.

Perfect for a coffee and a catch-up

Following a £28 million regeneration project which has been three years in the making, the newly relaunched Union Terrace Gardens provides a bright social hub in the city centre and is overlooked by a new coffee shop and bar, Common Sense, a new hot spot which is part of this regenerated area. Common Sense is just one of the many new coffee shops and hatches popping up across the city centre, including The Mount, located near Marischal Square. This artisan coffee house has made a stir as Aberdeen’s self-proclaimed home of ‘comfort and coffee’.

An ideal evening out

There’s also been a fantastic range of cool bars and social hang outs open in Aberdeen. Whether you’re after some creative cocktails at Bar Below, a cheeseboard-fuelled chat with friends at Olive Alexanders or a game of neon pool at OGV Taproom – there’s something for all tastes and interests.

Making waves on the coastline

As well as the bustling city centre, one of the iconic points of Aberdeen is the stunning coastline and the picturesque views. Whether you’re aiming to get a glimpse of bottlenose dolphins at Grey Hope Bay viewpoint and café, taking a stroll along the Aberdeen esplanade and enjoying a ride on the city’s standout Ferris wheel, or visiting the shore’s ice cream parlours, there’s something to suit everyone.

As part of the £100 million investment through the City Centre and Beach Masterplan to revitalise the stunning seaside beaches and with plans to include some fantastic new green areas, sports facilities and even a new pier, this redevelopment of the seafront will provide residents of the city with even more fantastic walks and sights to enjoy, enveloping the beautiful scenery the North-East of Scotland is known for.

The beach front is also becoming a popular destination for local pop-up restaurants, ideal for a seaside snack. Eateries such as Project Pizza, ROOTS Catering and Little Molly’s Cheesecakes offer a perfect selection of spots for a bite to eat near the beach.

One stop for shopping

With a fantastic mix of high street shopping and independent businesses, the city of Aberdeen is also a haven for those who love some retail therapy – perfect for homebuyers searching for the perfect furniture and accessories for their new home.

In the heart of the city centre, Union Square shopping centre is home to a wide variety of retailers both big and small, offering everything from interior furnishings and fashion, to toys and gifts, as well as a series of restaurants and bars. Already an impressive hub, £200 million of investment is set to enhance the Union Square experience, increasing the number of retail stores, adding a brand-new hotel and providing increased parking. When it comes to independent shops, Aberdeen has an abundance of choice – in fact, products from several fantastic local retailers are featured in our TwentyFour, Rosemount show apartment, as part of Cala’s Showhome of Support initiative.

For a city well-known for its history, there is a bright future for the city of Aberdeen. There’s never been a better time to look at what the region has to offer and we have a fantastic selection of city centre homes for all walks of life at developments including TwentyFour, Rosemount and Southbank by Cala.
